ROLE DESCRIPTION BOARD MEMBER

The Board of Trustees has legal authority and responsibility for the Trust.

RESPONSIBLE TO:
The Board Chairperson and the other Trust Board members

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To give effect to the Trust Deed by planning future directions for Orchestras Central development, ensuring the organisation is viable and ensuring services offered are compatible with the vision and mission of the organisation and appropriate, effective and relevant to the changing needs of the wider community.

EXPECTATIONS OF BOARD MEMBERS:

  • Be committed to and actively engaged in supporting and advancing Orchestras Central’s vision and mission.

  • Relate Orchestras Central role to the cultural, social, economic, trends that will take it into the future.

  • Develop and maintain relationships among member agencies and others.

  • Regularly scrutinise Board activities and seek feedback on the Board's performance.

  • Exercise fiduciary and legal duties.

  • Encourage group decision-making and sense of shared purpose.

  • Have skills and experience relevant to the needs of the Board and Orchestras Central’s work.


RESPONSIBILITIES AT BOARD MEETINGS:

  • To attend and actively participate in regular Board meetings, including the Annual General Meeting.

  • To prepare for Board meetings by reading the minutes, agenda and other relevant papers circulated before a Board meeting.

  • To take an active interest in Orchestras Central through participation in events, workshops and subcommittees.

  • To raise ideas and concerns and suggest priorities consistent with Orchestras Central’s vision and mission.

  • To ensure all the organisation's objectives are delivered.

  • To be aware of and understand the organisation’s policies.

  • To understand, respect and support the Chairperson and Chief Executive.

  • To respect, provide support and regular feedback for new and existing members of the Board of Orchestras Central.

  • To make areas of interest and expertise known to other Board members and staff.
