OCT Ensemble

OCT Ensemble is flexible group of professional musicians all of whom play with other orchestras in the Orchestras Central family and beyond. With a depth of knowledge and experience these musicians also provide coaching and workshop sessions for our youth and community players to develop the Orchestras Central 'ecosystem'.

The OCT Ensemble explores different ways of making music - combining art forms, pushing boundaries, and offering ‘out of the box’ musical experiences that interest and excite, and grow our connections across the wider community.

Performances and collaborations have included:

  • He Pu, He Puora, He Purakau – a seed, an instrument, a story, combining the world of Taonga Puoro with the traditions of the orchestra, featuring Horomona Horo and Jeremy Mayall.
  • Music in the Round, an evening of intimate music that included the New Zealand premier of Symphonic Chocolates, a work composed in Hamilton, Ontario.
  • Handel’s Messiah with the always impressive Hamilton Civic Choir.

OCT Ensemble has taken music to Kawhia - the first orchestra to visit the town in 100 years, Te Awamutu and Whitianga, and has performed pop-up concerts at Te Awa The Base, Hamilton.
