CENTRAL CELEBRATES

Orchestras Central presents a full weekend of orchestral experiences from 26 - 28 August 2022.  There will be something for everyone, whether you want to sit in on an open rehearsal, enjoy a family-friendly concert with your whaanau, experience an evening of fine music interspersed with some New Zealand poetry, or dig out an old instrument and play in the relaxed environment of the Rusty Player Orchestra. You will even be able to discover how composers develop a new piece of music, and hear it live for the first time.

All of the weekend's events will be at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato and are listed below.

Youth Orchestra Waikato

Sit in on an open rehearsal to see the inner workings of a symphony orchestra.  Entry by koha.

A side-by-side performance brings young musicians from the Waikato together.  Entry by koha.

Well-known nature inspired music, a new work by University of Waikato's own composer, Michael Williams and poetry by Hone Tuwhare, Denis Glover and Dinah Hawken.  Tickets on sale now.
