If you play an orchestral instrument, then we’d like to hear from you!
Each orchestra has a different process for new players, so please complete the information below, indicating which orchestra you are interested in and your instrument/level of playing, and we will respond as soon as possible.
- TWSO caters for adult players at Grade 6 and up.
- YOW accepts players age 12-18, (students outside of this age range are encouraged to talk to us about how they can be involved). Musicians are at Grade 5 and above. From 2019 all musicians will be asked to take part in a short audition in order to determine their placing in the orchestra. Some positions are currently full – talk to us about how you can be involved. Students under 12, or of Grade 4 and below are able to join the Sinfonia, currently operating at the Waikato Community School of Music on Saturday mornings.
- Rusty Players is open to adult players of all abilities.
- We also have a professional ensemble for which auditions may be required.
If you are a student at the University of Waikato there is also opportunity to take part in the Employability Plus Programme (EPP) – an initiative that gives students the opportunity to gain work-ready skills through volunteer activity. Students are recognised for this time and stand out when they are job hunting by gaining the practical skills and experience sought by prospective employers. Volunteering is one of three modules that the programme will offer. Students can apply for those positions directly online.
