Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra presents its annual tamariki concerts for schools.

This year we present a new work by local composer Janet Jennings, co-commissioned by Orchestras Central and Orchestra Wellington.  In a musical story about courage, guardianship and the environment around us, follow the journey of Pat, a brown teal (pāteke/pātētē), one of the rarest waterfowl in the world.  Pat travels from the Coromandel, through Hamilton and onward to Wellington, meeting other struggling wildlife and recognising the initiatives to protect them.  Akin to the well-known orchestral story for children, Peter and the Wolf, each instrument or section of the orchestra will be associated with a character, natural element or theme, with taonga pūoro (traditional Maori instruments) incorporated into the orchestra.

Seats are filling fast so if you would like your school's tamariki to be immersed in Pat's journey, please contact our Outreach Co-ordinator, Euan Safey, using the link below.
