Setting the scene is Douglas Lilburn's Overture: Aotearoa - shimmering and triumphant - paired with Anthony Ritchie's equally vibrant and lyrical Flute Concerto.  Gabrielle Fauré's melancholy yet hopeful Pavane provides a poignant contrast to Walton's ever-popular Crown Imperial - Coronation March.

The programme ends with two indulgently lush mini masterworks from Holst and Hindemith: full of life, colour and humour.
