Orchestras Central provides orchestral experiences that are accessible throughout the Waikato, deeply part of our community, and bring inspiration and joy to people of all ages and backgrounds. We are passionate about creating extraordinary orchestral experiences for all people of the Waikato.
We do more than deliver great performances. We grow player participation and encourage community engagement through our concerts, programmes, and education initiatives. We are a registered charitable trust with a board of highly experienced trustees. The office has a remunerated team of four who, along with our conductors, support over 300 musicians, both voluntary (unauditioned) and contracted professionals, and deliver more than 30 events each year in the Waikato region.
Our orchestras are the Trust Waikato Symphony (our community orchestra), Rusty Players (just like it sounds!), YOW (Youth Orchestra Waikato) and our professional OCT Ensemble. We are committed to continuing as much activity as possible during COVID-19 lockdowns. Find out how you can be involved here.
We have strategic relationships with Trust Waikato, Creative New Zealand and WEL Energy Trust, and a family of sponsors that includes the University of Waikato and a number of generous individuals. We would not exist were it not for the incredible support of our funders and donors and through generous provisions of services and skills. We are also incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and enthusiasm of the group of passionate volunteers who work behind the scenes.
More than 10,000 people enjoyed listening to our orchestras last year! Come and find out why at one of our upcoming events.
