Orchestras Central delivers fantastic orchestral music experiences in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. We are passionate about creating a vibrant and joyful orchestral scene for our community!
There’s ‘more than meets the ear’ to us – we deliver the best performances, grow player participation and encourage community engagement through our concerts, programmes, and education initiatives. We are a registered charitable trust with a board of highly experienced trustees. Part of the vision for Orchestras Central is to value those volunteers when and if they are able to contribute, but to ensure they do not feel guilty when they cannot. The office has a remunerated team of four, who, along with our Music Directors and conductors support over 300 musicians, both voluntary (unauditioned) and contracted professionals, and deliver more than thirty events each year in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
Our orchestras comprise include the Trust Waikato Symphony (our community orchestra), Rusty Players (just like it sounds!), YOW (Youth Orchestras Waikato) and a professional ensemble.
We have strategic relationships with Trust Waikato, Creative New Zealand, and WEL Energy Trust and have a family of sponsors that includes the University of Waikato, the Gallagher Trust and a number of generous individuals. We would not exist were it not for the incredible support of those who support us financially, and through generous provisions of services and skills. In addition, we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and enthusiasm of the group of passionate volunteers who work behind the scenes.
More than ten thousand people enjoyed listening to our Orchestras last year! Come and find out why by checking our upcoming events here.
