Be unique in your tribute to Mum and add a touch of class to her Mother’s Day with an afternoon of beautiful music. Let the orchestra provide the magic, and the essential chocolate as our gift to all special Mums.

Rupert D’Cruze conducts a musical journey of Slavic riches. The concert will feature one of New Zealand’s finest young violinists, Amalia Hall, who has performed to rave reviews on the international competition circuit. Amalia will perform Wieniawski’s second violin concerto, a piece that showcases a fascinating array of virtuoso violin technique and moves the listener with its gorgeous melodies. Tchaikovsky’s joyful Symphony No.2 uses three Ukrainian folk songs to great effect, hence its nickname the Little Russian. Smetana’s Ma Vlast is a powerful Czech nationalistic work. Vltava is the popular 6th movement, and a vivid portrait of Bohemia’s mighty river with clever use of instrumentation to depict phases of the river such as gurgling brooks, glints of sunlight, foaming rapids and hunting horns.
