Meet the Conductor – Oliver Barratt


Oliver is a Music Teacher, Conductor, Clarinettist and Saxophonist based in the Waikato. He began his musical journey in England at the age of 6 when he started learning the Cello through the Milton Keynes Music Service. After immigrating to New Zealand with his family he switched to Clarinet and Saxophone during High School. After completing an undergraduate degree in Music and Theatre Studies he completed his teacher training and currently teaches Year 7 & 8 music at Matamata Intermediate School and was Musical Director of the WCSM Sinfonia orchestra in Hamilton for a number of years.

He is actively involved with theatre and music in the Waikato both on stage and in the pit. He performs regularly as an Orchestral Musician and Musical Director with the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Operatic Society and various schools in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty.
