A note from Katrina – Orchestra Planning Manager

We have a busy year lined up for the Rusty Player Orchestra with our first event for 2020, Rusty Symphony, being only a few weeks away on Saturday, 15th February from 1pm – 3pm.  YThis event will be on the Sunset Symphony stage on the Rhododendron Lawn at the Hamilton Gardens.  Our conductor for Rusty Symphony, and in fact all of 2020, will be Catherine Polglase who many of you will have met at Rusty Brunch a few months ago.  Catherine has pieced together a programme of three works for Rusty Symphony, all with a symphonic provenance:

  • Amadeus! from Mozart’s Symphony No. 25, especially recognisable thanks to the 1984 film “Amadeus”
  • March to the Scaffold, being the fourth of the five movements in Belioz’s Symphonie Fantastique which tells the tale of an artist’s quest for love
  • A Whiter Shade of Pale with its nod to J.S. Bach’s Air on the G String

Rusty Symphony is an exciting opportunity to play in an outdoor setting, on the same stage on which the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra will be performing in the evening.  Don’t worry – we will not have an audience other than the family and friends you invite along for our informal performance at the end of the afternoon.  Details of the schedule for the afternoon, including the performance time, will be sent out later.  In the meantime, please let me know if you would like to register to play.  The cost for the afternoon will be $10.  Music will be available in the next week on the player portal  along with bank account details if you prefer to pay by internet banking rather than cash on the day.  If there isn’t a part on the player portal suited to your instrument please let me know so I can get a part transposed for you.

Don’t forget to come along to the Sunset Symphony later in the evening, wrapping up a day of music and fun.
