Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts
Knighton Rd
Hillcrest, Hamilton 3216
New Zealand
$10 adults, children free

A lion, a wolf and a ludicrous mischief-maker will be brought to life by master Kiwi actor-narrator, Mark Hadlow, who will put aside his Lord of the Rings costume and enchant both young and old with Opus Orchestra.

‘Midwinter Tales’ is a very special family-friendly concert created by Opus Music Director, Peter Walls. The spellbinding programme includes Prokofiev’s much-loved Peter and the Wolf, Philip Norman’s orchestral setting of Margaret Mahy’s A Lion in the Meadow, and a new adaptation of Stravinksy’s Pulcinella.

In addition to Hadlow, ‘Midwinter Tales’ will celebrate the work of 3 other stalwart Kiwis. Margaret Mahy needs no introduction. Her classic children’s story, A Lion in the Meadow, was delightfully set to music by Philip Norman. Norman is a composer, conductor, author, speaker, educator and publisher, and has been entertaining New Zealand audiences for 45 years.

Opus has commissioned David Groves to write a script for Stravinsky’s famous Pulcinella Suite. Groves combined his expertise in Italian and drama to transport the traditional Italian comedy character Pulcinella to the hinterlands of New Zealand for his mischief making.

Grab the children/grandkids and liven up the chilly season with a night of magical music and storytelling. The joy of the children will be infectious, and their wriggles and sniggles welcome!
