Audition for Opus Orchestra

Opus Orchestra is a professional chamber orchestra based in the Waikato. Currently Opus performs 3-4 times each year and is the preferred orchestra for collaborations with other organisations in the region.  We welcome applications to audition from talented musicians of at least LTCL (or equivalent) standard who wish to play for Opus.  We also welcome expressions of interest from musicians who already play for other professional orchestras.

Auditions take place at various times during the year.  Auditionees whose applications are accepted will be sent orchestral excerpts three weeks before their audition date and in addition will be required to prepare a concerto movement of their choice. Applicants wishing to audition for two instruments (e.g. flute and piccolo), will be sent the excerpts for both instruments and will be allocated two adjacent audition time slots.  The audition panel consists of the Music Director and Concertmaster or relevant section principal or appropriate players’ representative.

Musicians may be contracted for specific events or for a full year of activity. Dates are usually set in the previous year.  Please note contracts with Opus Orchestra are only available to New Zealand and Australian citizens and residents.
